Digital India the initiative of the India Government in making India technically advanced and sound at the intentional level. Under the Digital India the government has launched 22 projects, some of the important projects are the areas of digital infrastructure, digital empowerment, on-demand government services and promotion of industry.

As an advancement in terms technically it is very important to have the awareness of internet to the general public and for doing so it must be the responsibility of the government to provide fee connectivity for the general public.

And as such government of India is looking for new initiative by which will provide free connectivity to the general public. Earlier the government has also announced free wifi facilities to the railways station and metro station. Government of Orisha has also announced that it will provide free wi-fi service to major railway station, and also the metro station of Delhi.

It was also reported that leading the chart is Google that has introduced the public Wi-Fi service in 10 Indian cities. According to Gulzar Azad, Head of Access Project, Google India, “These stations join the first which google has brought online in January, Mumbai Central, where more than 100,000 people are already logging into the high-speed Wi-Fi every week.”

Reliance Jio Infocomm offered complementary WiFi service, Jionet, at the six main stadiums across the country for T20 World Cup matches. The stadiums where the company offered WiFi were M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bangalore), Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (Dharmashala), Eden Gardens (Kolkata), Punjab Cricket Association Stadium (Mohali), Ferozeshah Kotla (New Delhi) and Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai).

Recently Ola introduced a new Wi-Fi feature for its high-end cars that will enable customers to automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network when they get into a vehicle — no hassle with registration, codes or hotspot connections. Ola’s “Auto-Connect Wi-Fi” requires one initial log-in, after which a user automatically rejoins the Wi-Fi network in any Ola Prime vehicle.

Under the initiative of Digital India it is said that the Delhi Metro will soon provide free wi-Fi high speed broadband services latest by the second half of the year 2016. It was reported that the free wi-fi service will ensure a 50 Mbps (3 times 4G) minimum speed to passengers’ devices while the maximum speed could potentially go upto 1.6 Gbps as per Wave 2 standards.

The step will be taken under the association of Techno Sat Comm and PING Network. However, to avail this free Wi-fi sevice users have to download an app. The free wi-fi service will only usuable with help of this app only. Earlier it was reported that Techno Sat Comm started India’s first Wi-Fi on train service on the Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express,

“We have adapted the technology to India keeping in mind adverse weather conditions including heat, dust, heavy rains, vibration of trains and large passenger loads. We look forward to deliver a great passenger Wi-Fi and Multimedia experience to fulfill DMRC’s vision to enhance passenger experience and delight,” said Nirav Dave of Techno Sat Comm.

“The Rajdhani Wi-Fi despite being a pilot project with lower bandwidth sees close to 250 users of the 1,000 passengers on the train at any time. Passengers use standard internet applications like email, Facebook, Google, video chat with some also using it for live cricket and football matches,” says Dave.

Nasscom to uplift cyber-security In India

According to the news released by a source it is said that NASSCOM in collaboration with security firm Symantec, and Data Security Council of India (DSCI) launched the National Occupational Standards for ten cyber security job roles with the corresponding Qualification Packs (QP) in line with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).

it is expected to create $35 billion revenue opportunity and employment opportunities for about a million professionals by 2025 for India, IT industry body Nasscom said.

“We estimate that cyber security is about $2.5-3 billion or about 2 per cent of the close to USD 150 billion Indian IT sector. With the sector on track to reach $350 billion by 2025, we estimate 10 per cent of this to be cybersecurity,” Nasscom Chair Cyber Security Task Force Rajendra Pawar said

Talking about Symantec’s on-going association with NASSCOM, Sanjay Rohatgi, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan, Symantec said “Building the next generation of cyber professionals is key to securing India’s critical information infrastructure, battling cybercrime and making the ‘Digital India’ initiative successful.”

Realising the importance of encouraging women in this field, Rohatgi said, “Leading on from our commitment in 2015, we continue to work closely with NASSCOM to build a cadre of world class, skilled and certified cyber security professionals in India, with a special focus on youth and women.”

NASSCOM President R Chandrashekhar explained that the initiative has a bilateral approach—to contribute to limiting the spurt of cyber-crime and also enhancing the employability of the work-force.

“With collaborative efforts, we are glad to announce the launch of ten QPs & the courseware for QP Analyst – Application Security, which is the collective effort of the industry and is going to be a landmark in empowering women while fighting a major issue like cybercrime,” he added.
